Financially Trusting Yourself…Again

Maybe you, or your spouse, made a bad business decision, went a little too crazy with the credit cards, quit your job in anger, or some other action and it put your financial life in jeopardy. Maybe you have spent the last few weeks, months, even years, getting your finances back on track. And maybe, just maybe, because of all you’ve gone through, you don’t trust yourself anymore. EVEN when you’ve done your research and know the decision is solid, there is still a quiet taunting voice saying…”Are you sure? You remember last time you …

And there it is. The voice isn’t wrong. The voice didn’t lie. And you find yourself hesitating, and doubting your decision. It’s infuriating because you know EVERYONE makes mistakes, so you are not the exception, but…still. So, how do you get past that? How do you get back to financially trusting yourself (or your spouse) again?

T: Time

Some things take time, and trust is one of them. You have to get as many good decisions, even if they are small, between you and the bad one as possible. Move forward making the best decisions you can as you go.  It’s not going to happen overnight, so cut yourself some slack.

R: Research

This is a biggie. Do your due diligence! It’s a lot easier to trust yourself when you’ve done research. There is a wealth of RELIABLE financial information available online, in books, via classes, and more. Take advantage of it. Start with verifiable sources who have no gain, or loss, in your financial decision.

U: Understand

As long as humans have been on this planet, we have made mistakes. You would have to get very, very, VERY creative to do something someone else hasn’t done already AND recovered from. Understand you are human and mistakes are an inevitability. GROW from them, LEARN from them and FORGIVE yourself.

S: Speak

The way to silence the voice of doubt is by opening YOUR mouth and speaking. Encourage yourself. Yes, acknowledge the misstep, but counter with the good decisions you’ve made, past and present, plus the positive actions you are taking moving forward. Do not allow doubt to do all the talking. Speak up for yourself! Your mistakes do not define you!

T: Try Again

Now it’s time to get up and DO! Despite the past, you can’t just hide and hope things will turn out alright.  You must take action. Slow down, as much as you can, breathe, determine your options, and do your research. Recognize mistakes can, and will, still be made, so don’t be surprised. Squelch your self-doubt and fear then…move forward.

You are worth trusting again!
